Care at every stage of creating a memorial

From the first quiet conversation to the day the stone is placed, we help families across Melbourne and regional Victoria design, personalise and arrange headstones and memorials — explaining each choice clearly, and never rushing you.

01 · Memorial consultation

A conversation, not a sales appointment

Every memorial begins with listening. We’d like to hear about the person you are remembering, what matters to your family and where they are laid to rest.

A first consultation can happen in person, by phone or by video — whatever is easiest for your family. You don’t need to have decided anything. We’ll talk through the kinds of memorials that are possible, what the cemetery is likely to allow, the decisions ahead and roughly how the process unfolds.

  • Time to share stories, customs and wishes
  • Plain-language explanations of styles, stone and lettering
  • Early guidance on cemetery permits and requirements
  • No obligation to go ahead

02 · Memorial design

A design you can see, question and refine

We turn your ideas into a clear design proposal showing the shape, stone, layout and wording, so you can picture the memorial before anything is made.

Some families arrive with a sketch or a photo of a memorial they admire; others would rather we suggest a few directions. Either is welcome. Changes are a normal part of the process, and we’ll keep revising until the design feels right to you and suits what the cemetery permits.

Form
Headstone, full monument, lawn plaque, book or heart shape, companion or family memorial.
Layout
Names, dates, epitaph, symbols and room for future inscriptions.
Style
Traditional, contemporary, cultural or entirely personal.

03 · Stone selection

Choosing the stone, colour and finish

Natural stone is the foundation of a memorial’s look and how well it weathers. We’ll explain how each option tends to age outdoors, how readable lettering will be on it and what care it may need — then help you compare real samples where possible.

  • Black granite

Polished — crisp contrast for lettering

  • Grey granite

Honed — soft, matte and understated

  • Rose granite

    Polished — warm and gentle

  • White marble

Honed — classic, with more care

  • Sandstone

    Textured — natural and earthy

04 · Engraving & personalisation

Words, languages and images that belong to them

The inscription is often the part families think about longest. We’ll help you shape the wording, check spacing and spelling, and choose lettering that stays legible for years.

Engraved, painted or gilded lettering, depending on the stone and the look you prefer.

05 · Manufacturing & craftsmanship

Made with care, to the design you approved

Once your design, quotation and any cemetery permit are in place, your memorial is made to the approved design by experienced stonemasons.

Stone is cut and shaped, surfaces are finished, and lettering and artwork are applied to the final proof your family signed off. We keep you informed as it progresses and will let you know if anything needs your attention before installation.

  • Made to the approved design and proof
  • Attention to lettering, spacing and alignment
  • Checked before it leaves for the cemetery

06 · Cemetery installation

Placed safely, in line with the cemetery’s rules

Memorial installation in Victoria is carried out in line with the cemetery’s requirements and the approved permit.

Each cemetery sets its own rules for foundations, fixing and timing, and some ask families to wait a period after a burial before a memorial is installed. At some sites, the cemetery may require installation by its own staff or by approved or registered installers. We’ll confirm how installation works at your cemetery early on, so there are no surprises later.

  • We check the cemetery’s installation requirements for your section
  • We coordinate timing with the cemetery and keep you informed
  • Where the cemetery installs, we’ll explain how that is arranged

07 · Restoration & additional inscriptions

Caring for an existing memorial

Families sometimes ask us about adding a name to an existing headstone, refreshing faded lettering or repairing an older memorial.

Subject to confirmation. What’s possible depends on the memorial’s stone, condition and construction, so an assessment is needed first. Cemetery approval and the consent of the right of interment holder are commonly required before any work begins.

  • Additional inscriptions on an existing memorial
  • Re-painting or re-gilding of lettering
  • Cleaning, re-levelling or repair, where suitable

Photos of the memorial and its inscription help us give you an initial view before an on-site assessment.

Questions

About our services

A few things families often ask before getting started.

Read all FAQs
Do we need to know what we want before the first consultation?

Not at all. Many families start with only a name and a cemetery. We’ll explain the options and help you narrow them down. If you’d like a head start, our memorial finder suggests a few styles to explore.

Can you include a language other than English?

Yes, inscriptions can include other languages and scripts. We prepare the layout carefully and provide a proof, and we recommend that a fluent family member, community translator or religious leader checks it before engraving. More about languages.

Does your quote include cemetery fees?

Cemetery permit and other fees are set by the cemetery. Our written quotation will show clearly what is and isn’t included, and we’ll help you understand which cemetery fees may apply. What we need for a quote.

Can you add a name to a headstone we already have?

Often, yes — subject to an assessment of the memorial and approval from the cemetery, which commonly requires the right of interment holder’s consent. Photos of the existing memorial are a helpful first step. Changing an existing memorial.
